ADDITIONAL PRODUCT INFORMATION
Riverfront Stadium opened in 1970 as home to both the Bengals and the Reds. Its name comes from its location on the Ohio River in downtown Cincinnati. The Stadium's design is a result of the "cookie-cutter" or "concrete donut" trend in the 1960-70s such that its structure was perfectly circular and made to transition easily between baseball and football playing fields. Riverfront hosted two AFC Championship games in the 1981-82 and 1988-89 seasons. The first is remembered as the Freezer Bowl in which the Bengals defeated the San Diego Chargers, 27-7, in -9°F weather with a wind chill of -37°F. In 1996, the Stadium was named Cinergy Field and four years later, in 2000, the Bengals moved to the Paul Brown Stadium. Thus the now baseball-only stadium was made smaller and was eventually demolished in 2002 to allow room for the Great American Ball Park which was built adjacent to and on the site of old Riverfront.
