September 1946 SPORT Cover (Joe DiMaggio, New York Yankees)

Launched in September 1946, the SPORT Magazine's inaugural edition featured the legendary Joe DiMaggio of the New York Yankees and his son on the cover. One of baseball's all-time legends, DiMaggio played his entire 13-year career with the Yankees winning 9 World Series Titles, 3 MVPs and still holds the record for most consecutive games with a hit with his famed 56-game hitting streak.

SPORT Magazine, which ran from 1946 to 2000, celebrated what its editors accurately anticipated would be the coming explosion of interest in professional and amateur sport in post-war North America.
