California Golden Seals
Who were the California Golden Seals?
The California Golden Seals were an NHL team from 1967-1976 based in Oakland, California (the team was originally called the Oakland Seals). They came into the NHL in 1967 with the league's first expansion that brought an end to the Original Six Era, with 5 other teams including the Philadelphia Flyers, L.A. Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota North Stars, and St. Louis Blues. The Seals had the least success of the 6 new expansion teams and in 1976 they moved to Cleveland to become the Cleveland Barons, which only lasted 2 years. The Barons merged with the Minnesota North Stars in 1978, which would eventually become the Dallas Stars.
