The Toronto Huskies were Toronto's first major professional basketball team, founded in 1946 as part of the inaugural Basketball Association of America (BAA), the league that would become the NBA. On November 1, 1946, the Huskies made basketball history when they hosted the New York Knickerbockers at Maple Leaf Gardens in what is now recognized as the first game in NBA history.
Though the team lasted just one season, the Huskies established Toronto's place in professional basketball nearly 50 years before the Raptors arrived in 1995. Today, their legacy lives on through the Raptors, who have honoured the city's basketball roots with Huskies-inspired throwback uniforms.
