The 2018 World Cup run was magical for England, making it all the way to the semifinals. Along the way, they snapped their penalty curse as well. Having lost all three of their previous WC penalty shootouts, England came out on top this time, advancing past Colombia in the knockout stage.

The England-Germany rival is one with history. In the 2001 World Cup Qualifiers, England traveled to Munich. What ensued was unexpected. a 5-1 thrashing of the German squad, "even Heskey scored!" It mwas an early statement of what many hoped would be the golden generation of English talent.

The scene was set. David Beckham had a long-range free kick deep into stoppage time. England needed a goal to qualify for the 2002 World Cup. Without it, England would find themselves watching from home the next summer. As history would have it, Beckham curled it in and booked England's WC ticket.

England's last World Cup victory, in 1966 the trophy came home. A wonderful game that was pushed into extra time by a late German equalizer. Hurst scored a controversial goal as the Germans believed it had never crossed the line. Nevertheless, England took home the trophy, they were World Champions.
