Four Historic Matches
1968 European Cup Final at Wembley Stadium
Manchester United vs Sport Lisboa e Benfica
George Best, 93’
10 years after the Munich air disaster, the Red Devils would win the European Cup in what is often considered club’s most important title. The legendary George Best scored in extra time to put United in the lead.
1977 FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium
Manchester United vs Liverpool
Jimmy Greenhoff, 55’
Liverpool had already secured the league title and European Cup when Greenhoff would deflect Macari’s shot to deny Liverpool from claiming The Treble. United would become the first club to accomplish this feat 22 years later.
1993 FA Premier League at Old Trafford
Manchester United vs Sheffield Wednesday
Steve Bruce, 96’
His second header goal of the match, the timing of the 96th minute goal would be referred to afterwards as “Fergie time.” This win put United on top of the table; they would sweep the final five games earning Sir Alex Ferguson his first Premier League title.
1999 FA Cup Semi-Final at Villa Park
Manchester United vs Arsenal
Ryan Giggs, 109’
Down a man, Schmeichel would save a 90’ penalty kick to send the game into overtime. United would next defeat Newcastle in the final and the following month win the Champions League to claim the first Premier League Treble.
